Hi.

Welcome to What Lo Knows. Let's hang out and talk about jewelry that doesn't suck, eh?

Unique Engagement Rings for Non-Traditional Brides

Unique Engagement Rings for Non-Traditional Brides

Buying an engagement ring will likely be the most significant jewelry purchase you and your partner make in a lifetime and there’s a lot of pressure to choose the “perfect ring”. To help round up some current ring trends, I spoke with someone who spends a lot of time looking at engagement rings: Rachel Silver,  founder of wedding video site, LoveStoriesTV (and my former colleague at Birchbox!). If you want to find out what’s trending at weddings, Silver's your girl.

First of all, you’re not imagining it—the engagement ring selfies in your feed are getting more unique. According to Silver, "It's always been the case that brides want an ring that is impressive, but now, because of Instagram and the spread of personal moments online, there is a major focus on originality and not being the same as everyone else.”

So, what trends should you look out for when you head to the jeweler? I love a classic cut and band, but if you’re looking for something a little more unique, here are a few styles that I'm personally eyeing.

The final piece of advice? "My biggest piece of advice when it comes to rings is to get (or drop hints for) something you love NOW. Life is too short to worry about if you'll love the style in 30 years. If your personal aesthetic is antique, great! It won't go out of style and you have nothing to worry about. Love something more current? I say go for it. You can always have it re-styled later. Go with what you love.” I couldn't agree more!
